Call it a Brown family remodeling! After it was revealed that TLC Sister Wives star Kody Brown had secretly divorced his first wife to legally marry the youngest of his four wives, the Brown family released a statement to Us Weekly addressing speculation that there was trouble in their rather unconventional reality brood.

The Browns, as a collective unit, insisted that the divorce and new legal marriage were part of a joint family decision.

“We have chosen to legally restructure our family,” the Browns told Us. “We made this decision together as a family. We are grateful to our family, friends and fans for all their love and support.”

Family patriarch Kody is spiritually entwined in a union with “sister wives” — Meri, Christie, Janelle, and Robyn — all of whom are featured on TLC’s reality series. Legally speaking, he can only be married to one of the four women, with whom he shares 14 biological children and 3 stepchildren.

It was revealed on Tuesday that Brown had divorced his first wife, Meri, last fall after 24 years of marriage. After legally “splitting” from his 44-year-old spouse, Brown then discreetly wed the youngest of his four wives, Robyn, 37, months later.

Fans speculated trouble in polygamist paradise considering that Robyn is the newest addition to the Sister Wives. Robyn, along with her three children from a previous relationship, joined Brown’s family in 2010. She bore him a son, Solomon, in October 2011.

The Brown family has yet to reveal the exact reason that they chose to “legally restructure” their family, but TMZ reported that the swap was made so that he could protect Robyn’s kids — Dayton, Aurora, and Breanna — as a legal guardian.
