It pays to be on Meryl's good side! She may play an evil witch in the upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway musical Into the Woods, but Meryl Streep is far from wicked. In fact, the Oscar winner and on-screen legend played a part in helping her costar Billy Magnussen land the role of Rapunzel's Prince.

"I remember the first day coming into rehearsal," Magnussen, 29, told the New York Post, laughing. "Meryl was like, ‘Listen, I want you to know, I got you this f--king part.'"

It turns out Streep, 65, had seen the Broadway actor in the Tony-winning play Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike back in 2013 and then lobbied for him to land a role in Into the Woods.

Magnussen earned a Tony nom for his role as Spike in the play. Though he's been in the business for several years, Into the Woods will be his first major on-screen role.

Into the Woods hits theaters on Christmas Day.
